Overview

Cheetah DVD is a straight forward CD and DVD burner that works as fast as its name.  It allows you to burn multiple video and data formats to DVD.  It also allows you supports burning music, build and burn ISO image files, supports Blu-ray, and can easily create bootable disks.  While it can burn pretty much any file type to optical disc, it also features the ability to convert video files to FLV, AVI, WMV, mp4, MOV, MPG, and 3GP.

The installation is simple and basic following the installSheild Wizard.

After installation you can select to use the 15 day free trial or purchase a registration key.

This all in one burning suite features the ability to perform basically any burning or file conversion task you want to perform.

Another nice feature is a limited audio conversion tool that supports mp3, OGG, WMA, WAV, and mp2 file types.

Set up the settings on your optical drive.

Ease of Use – 8

The user interface is laid out nicely with big, clearly labeled buttons making for easy operation.  Simply click on the Start button to get going to create a new project.

From the New Project screen you can select the type of job you want to perform.  Notice here is also where you can convert audio or video, create ISO files, rip a CD, and erase an entire disc.

Here we are making a DVD and Cheetah opens up with the burning window on the left and includes notes and instructions on how to use it.

On the left side is the explorer for you to easily navigate to the files you want to work with.

You’re shown a progress screen while conversions and burning takes place.

After the project is completed you’re brought back to the main control area to start a new job or close out.

Performance - 8

The functions of Cheetah DVD performed very well on our dual-core Windows 7 machine allowing other multitasking while the burning took place.  Running on an older P4 system with XP it slowed down the machine a bit more but that is to be expected.

Conclusion

Cheetah DVD is very functional and has enough features to make it a must have in your software arsenal.  The user interface is nothing fancy but is straight forward and allows you to easily get the job done.  They offer a free 15 day trial and a full license is only $19.95 after that and works on Windows 98 up through Windows 7.  If you’re looking for a powerful easy to use DVD burning application that’s light on system resources Cheetah DVD deserves a look.
