Ease of Use – 7

Using Advanced Audio Recorder for internal computer audio is very easy once you get your sound card set up correctly.  For our tests we ran it on Windows 7 and needed to tweak the Creative sound card.  Vista users will also need to adjust the sound card following these instructions.  You will also need to make adjustments if your using Line-In or Microphone inputs for your recording.

First we had to go into Recording Sound Properties and Right-Click and check Show Disabled Devices which for our Creative SB X-Fi pulled up “What U Hear”.

Sound

Next, select to make this the default recording device and click OK.

Now when you start up any music player software or Web based audio you can see the movement in the sound meter in Advanced Audio Recorder.  Hit the speaker button to show the mixer window and make volume and source adjustments then simply hit the record button.

A recording message will flash while recording a track.  During recording you can pause or stop at any time.

You can toggle between the Mixer screen and the Recorded Files List where you can play back the recordings.

Performance – 7

We found the performance of this app to be fast and effective in recording from different media sources.  It is also very light on system resources while recording making it perfect for older or less powerful systems.

Product Support – 5

Unfortunately I was not able to find any customer or technical support on their website.  After some searching online I was able to find a contact email for them.  They do offer some instruction on the site and also a user manual which includes FAQ.

Conclusion

Advanced Audio Recorder has a surprising amount of great audio recording and editing features.  Another great advantage is being able to store your recording as MP3 or other file formats that let you take them with you on your portable music player.  They offer a limited 30 day trial then $29.95 after that.  We were able to get it to work great on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
