When your documents include pictures, charts, or other graphics it’s nice to add a caption to describe more to the reader.

So you are using the killer Amarok music application under Ubuntu, but when you try  to “Burn this Album”, the menu item is grayed out and otherwise disabled. The reason for this is because Amarok is a KDE application designed to work with K3b, the cd burning application for KDE, but it’s not installed by default in Ubuntu. (For that matter, neither is Amarok)

You can add emphasis to your Word 2007 documents by using Drop Caps… you know, those big letters at the beginning of a document or paragraph that make your document look really professional.

Since we opened our doors in September ’06, this site has produced more than 450 How-To articles on a bunch of different topics, but until now we haven’t had a place to blog about regular geek topics.

Most of the time, when I download something it’s a file archive of some kind – usually a tarball or a zip file. This could be some source code for an app that isn’t included in Gentoo’s Portage tree, some documentation for an internal corporate app, or even something as mundane as a new WordPress installation.

When you want to quickly insert a horizontal line into your Word document instead of going through the Borders and Shading dialog box in the Ribbon here is a keyboard shortcut to save you time.

Excel 2007 can open a document from a previous version of outlook in Compatibility Mode, but if you want to take advantage of some of the new features you’ll need to convert the document.(You can use 1.1 million rows in Excel 2007 instead of only 65k in previous versions)

Everybody knows that you can pop up the system clock in Vista by just hovering the mouse over the clock. What you might not know is that you can also do the same thing with the keyboard.

Personally I abhor receiving Forwards in my inbox. Not the important ones from my boss or ones that actually are useful in dealing with an issue. I am talking about the stupid jokes, “funny” pictures, chain emails, etc…
