What is this "Web Folders" Icon in My Computer and How Do I Remove It?
After installing a bunch of software required for work, I noticed that I had a new icon under “My” Computer that I hadn’t noticed before. What is this Web Folders icon, and how do I get rid of it?
Web Folders is a component that allows you to connect to WebDAV or SharePoint servers and access or modify files on them. If you don’t use those features or don’t use the icon, then there’s really no point in letting it waste space, so we’ll just remove it with a quick registry hack.
Manual Registry Hack
Open up regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then browse down to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

Below that key you will find a key with the name {BDEADF00-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}, and all you have to do is delete it, preferably after exporting a copy of the key just in case.
Hit refresh in Computer and you’ll see that the icon is gone. To restore it, use the download below.
Download Registry Hack
Just download, extract, and double-click on RemoveWebFolders.reg to enter the information into the registry. The icon should now be gone. To restore, just use the RestoreWebFolders.reg file instead.

Great job on the site, the regular updates here are always insightful!
Thanks!
I have Home Basic and don’t have this ‘Web Folder’ you talk about
@Chris
Not everybody has the folder, it depends on what software you have installed. I simply wrote this for those people that do have it and are wondering how to get rid of it.
Any tips on how to *change* a web folder icon? I’ve been through all the network settings I can find, there’s nothing but a general tab under Rclick->properties.. help? :) Thanks!
thank you for helping me with the steps to delete WEB FOLDER icon from My computer window …thx again
Both solutions did not work. Help.
Workd like a charm!
thnx very much!
didn’t have a web-folder on my system, but I had an entry from “Nero scout” there, which I never used, got rid of it this way, thx (the actual name is on the right in clear text)
Hey thank you for the tip. It worked like a charm.
Both solutions did not work for me either – the icon appeared in explorer after the computer got infected with the srosa trojan, which I finally got rid of, but now I can’t get rid of “Web Folders”
If this didn’t work…
Also try finding the value in :
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace]
as well as HKLM.
How did you get web folders to begin with?! I need it!
Thanks
As Zeff said .

Hi guys and galls , i did all the solutions here and none solved my problem .
At registry “namespace” i only have 3 registry keys for portable devices and scanners , none of them are related to this folder on explorer .
i applyed the reg file but didnt solve nothing .
also looked for HKLM and nothing there .
tryed on run command to uninstall webfldrs.msi but i recieve this message :
“This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and you can access it , or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package” .
anyone have more solutions to try here ?
Thanks a lot
got it , i was more complicated but it worked , if you have the same problem as me then follow these steps :
Remove this key from registry :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Clsid\{BDEADF00-C265-11d0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}
then goto explorer and do the refresh
if the folder appears as system folder then click with right button on mouse in it and delete it .
I have a better idea of removing web folders in windows xp it is 1000000% successful,working,correct,safe
and best.
” Let say you have only one windows installed on your system in drive C: ” . Mine is different so you must know your home drive letter.
1. Go to your WINDOWS Directory folder and then go to SYSTEM32 folder.
C:\WINDOWS\system32.
2. Now find a file name ” webfldrs.msi ” and run it!
C:\WINDOWS\system32\webfldrs.msi.
3. Now You Have Three Options To Select.Select The “3rd One”
=> Remove All
4. Follow the onscreen instruction.
&
“You Are Done”
I GUARANTEE YOU THAT “WEB FOLDERS” WILL BE REMOVED FROM YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM…!
Thanks ever so much, the .reg entries are BRILLIANTLY USEFUL becuase the WF icon does sometimes decide to resurrect itself spontaneously at times. Thanks once again, and tweeted.
Thanks for the tip, “web folders” –> removed =)..
