At my grade school, we actually had a competition to see who could get the farthest in the game, and they had two boards posted - 1 for those who had beaten the game, with their completion time, etc., and 1 for those who routinely died. One guy was on the "those who died" board more times than I could count (they did little headstones with your name on it if you got killed).

On another note, they came out with an Anniversary Edition box set for Oregon Trail several years ago. It came in a wooden box and had all the editions of OT that had come out, but in Windows format. I still have it lying around somewhere at home. Even to this day, I never have completed the game. Closest I ever got was the mountains out west, where I died of hypothermia.
