Announcing the How-To Geek Forums

In the next logical extension of this site, I’ve added a forum so that the readers can interact with each other. The geeks behind How-To Geek will be answering any questions that you might ask, and hopefully other readers will participate in answering questions as well.

You might wonder why I chose bbPress as the forum software to use instead of the more established vbulletin or phpbb… there’s one answer: bbPress is easy to use.

For the moment, I’ve added the following forums, but I might add more as time goes on.

  • Windows Vista
  • Linux
  • Reader Contributions
  • Suggestions

I’ll be making plenty of changes and tweaks to the forum as time goes on, but for right now it’s just vanilla bbpress, and there’s not a ton of content quite yet.

So if you have any computer questions, your best bet is to ask them on the forums instead of emailing me, although you are still welcome to do so.

I had thought about launching a BBpress forum on our site awhile ago, but went with Simple Machines instead since it is much more powerful. Looks like our users seem to like it pretty well, but congrats on getting a forum up!

    Thanks!

bbPress integrates with Wordpress natively, which was another reason for choosing it. Some of the things that I plan to do on the site will require that down the road.

I have dial up connection. How does one resize a photo before sending it to me? These are taking for ever for my computer to download into my mail. Thanks for any help with this.
