Make Firefox Only Auto-Complete Manually Typed URLs
After I started testing out the last tip about enabling inline auto-completion in the address bar, it occurred to me that although links from my browser history kept showing up in the list, I’d probably never type those in.
After just a few minutes of research, I found a setting that will make Firefox only auto-complete the links that you type in manually. This is helpful when you use a lot of bookmarklets or search keywords from the address bar.
Keep in mind that this setting is not for everybody, but it’s good to understand how things work.
To make this change, type about:config into the address bar, and then filter by the following key:
browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped

Double-click on the value to change it to true, and you should immediately notice that links from the history will no longer auto-complete:

Of course, links that you’ve manually typed in will continue to automatically complete:

It’s great to have a browser where everybody can choose their own settings.

What a nice option! Thanks for the tip.
Very nice tip, I was tired of huge, massive and mostly irrelevant lists.
Good tip. It’s so boring to get so many unconnected options suddenly coming up.
Nice tips, thanks
not working with RC1 :(
