Desktop Fun: Google Themed Icon Packs
Are you an avid user of Google’s online services, but the icons for your desktop and app launcher shortcuts leave something to be desired? Now you can make those shortcuts shine with style using our Google Themed Icon Packs collection.
Note: To customize the icon setup on your Windows 7 & Vista systems see our article here. Using Windows XP? We have you covered here.
Sneak Preview
For this week’s sneak preview we set up a Google Chrome themed desktop using the Simply Google Icon Collection shown below.
Note: Original full-size wallpaper can be found here.

We used Chromium to create a set of app shortcuts for various Google services on our desktop. Anyone who has done the same knows that the original icons do not look very good, so these icon packs can make those shortcuts look spectacular.

Once the new icons were arranged for our desktop app shortcuts, we then pinned them to our Taskbar. Those are definitely looking nice!

Google Wave is dead that makes me sad :(
This icons are very nice. That is one of the many reasons I love Vista/Windows 7. The support for large 512×512 size icons. It really makes your desktop look alive.
lookin cool, just downloaded.
these are AWESOME.
Cool , now my desktop is googling everywhere there is google icons. :)
@Yoshiyah, Ashutosh, cheryl, & LoverBoy – Glad to know that you are all enjoying the icons! ^_^
Wop!!! Its great
Looked great… then reverted back to the default google icons after less than an our and a few clicks? Any ideas what the problem might be?
@PUME04 – That is really odd. O_o The only idea I have at the moment is that it may be a difference in “Plain Jane” Chromium versus Google Chrome itself (I am assuming those are the shortcuts you are referring too?)…
unzipped the Google New Product Icons into regular folder. Tried to change desktop icon, but comes back with “…. filename.GIF contains no icons”. It appears that only .ICO type files are accepted.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
@Oldtimer88 – You can use this small portable program to quickly convert those files into .ico format. Just drag and drop the image into the window and it will be automatically converted for you. ^_^ It is now at version 1.1 and you will need to have the .NET Framework (2.0 or higher) installed on your computer. ^_^
