Hmmm, one of things I liked about howtogeek was the lack of apple related stuff. Come on guys, don’t start now.

  3. The Geek

    @Scott

Hey, we aren’t becoming Apple fanboys. We just figured we’d put together a list to help people out!

  4. Robert Palmar

I have to second Scott here.

The help offered is for iPad owners. A distinct tiny minority.
The best tip for the iPad is don’t waste your time and money on one.

  6. Kelly

I’m curious why you say don’t waste your money?

  7. gjperera

I noticed my site was mentioned for the Google Calendar Sync to the iPad, I have added a ton of how-to’s, specifically around the use of PDF’s on the iPad – something users are really looking for. I hope you find them useful.

  8. James

Because it costs entirely too damn much for what is essentially a Nintendo DS with a half-ass browser and no games.

  9. Jique

More apple bashing crybaby morons…are you too stupid to just not read the article if the topic doesn’t interest you? Wait, don’t answer that, I already know.

  10. Don Birdsall

A very useful article with links to other useful iPad resources.

I have owned an iPod Touch since July 2008. That platform has been successful for Apple and the larger display is a very logical development. I did not hesitate pre-ordering one for delivery on launch day and I have absolutely no regrets. The next iteration of the OS due out in the summer will make it even better. This is great technology and Apple’s success with the product will be proof of that.

I cannot understand comments about a lack of games. There are thousands of available apps, many of which are games. I suppose that a dedicated gamer might prefer some other platform, but for those of us who want a variety of applications on an ultra-portable platform this is a superb device.

How do you delete/remove iPad email address?

  17. Kaye

Can anyone help us. We are trying to load photos to our Ipad (which we can do), but they do not come in alphabetical order as they are listed on our computer. We want to use the photos on Ipad as a catalogue for our business and it is imperative that they are in alphabetical order. We are so frustrated!!! Can anyone help us???

  18. John

Deleting photos. When I select all photos, press the button next to sideshow I get the red delete box. I then select the photo I want to delete and up comes Email (1) Copy (1) and delete. Pressing delete does not now work because system thinks I want to email and copy the photo. Any ideas except restore?

  19. Scott.Y

    Kaye,
The photos on the iPad are displayed based on date taken. Simply edit the property of each photo’s “date taken” to a sequential order then synch to your iPad. If you have questions email me at Scott(at)young-designs.com

I have the iPad 3g just a few days, and I must say, although I am a Windows lover: it rocks. It is amazingly intuitive and what I really like are the low prices for apps in the App Store. Thanks for the article. It is very usefull.

  34. Robert Patton

I am not having much success transferring photos from my PC to the i-PAD (version 4.2 installed). When I take all of the necessary steps and “apply” in i-Tunes, The photos are all “cached” on the PC but only the most recent transfers (and then not all of them) show up in the pictures section of the i-PAD and even then, they are all in what appears as a stack of photos which open up to individual photos when the stack is tapped. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

    Bpb Patton

  35. Jerry

Is there a way to make folders in my photos on the iPad instead of creating them on my desktop?
I want to organize my web downloaded pictures on my iPad.

My other question is: is there an easy way to delete mail like in the old OS? Is says archive and I’d like to delete all my junk mail without looking at them or doing one at a time.

    Thanks

  36. Maxwell

How can u switch apps to another page?

  37. Will

    To Maxwell

Just tap on the app untill it wriggles and a black x appear on the top and you are free to move it anywhere. If you want to move it to the another page, move it down to the bottom and flip to that page then move the app up, easy !

  38. Sweatermeat

Did you ever fart so hard you ended up in another zip code?

  39. Carley

@James…..Maybe you should write a “how to” on using a nintendo DS! I would love to see how it could help place all of my businesses ordering, schedule caterings, compile quotes, keep track of inventory while at the same time keeping all of my kid’s and husband’s schedules and letting me do all the everyday emailing, contact compiling and internet research…..I love my iPad…..it does all that and more. As for games, there are 100′s of free game apps if one feels inclined to download them….just because i want a new car doesn’t mean I hate on the people that have them so don’t be mad that you don’t have an iPad….maybe one day you will be so lucky! He he.

  40. daveintn

Nice list!! I’d love to hear others ideas about the best desktop sharing / vpn / vnc tools!

The link for the ‘How to print from your iPad’ is broken.

  42. Darlene

    Hi!

What a great list! I would like to make one comment, when you were mentioning about “quickly muting the iPad” the new iOS 4.2 will let you mute the iPad instantly by sliding the switch that is above the volume button. With the older version of the iOS the switch used to lock the iPad orientation in either landscape or portrait mode.

    BTW, I luv your site!

  43. OldGnome

The “How to print” link is broken.

For those who are saying “don’t waste your money,” I was one of you until I received one as a gift. I use it as my more-mobile-than-my-notebook device. My primary uses are reading books, listening to music and watching movies. It’s an outstanding device for those.

How do you scroll back to a previous page if the back arrow is not lit uo

  56. n4nz

One app without doubt that will solve any woes regarding file transfers including photos and streaming media is filebrowser.

It allows you to connect via wifi to a networked pc and so long as you have your shares set up correctly the sky is your limit.

Photos can be viewed or transfered to your ipad and saved in a personal folder structure, even pushed to the generic ipad photo app.

Movies can be streamed (obviously in a format the ipad can play) or saved to the device in your own folder structure.

Files of any kind can also be saved again in your own folder structure or even opened in an app that will handle it.

I really am not doing the app justice with this post check it out yourselves, beats air sharing folders and dropbox style apps hands down, whilst they all have some of the functionality this app does none handles as much as easy.

Just double click on the home button, scroll over to the skip back / play / skip forward buttons and press play to resume or skip forward a couple of times to the end. This should solve the problem I have found. ONLY works for iOS 4.2.

When I browse through the apps and I have gone through several screens, if I tap on an app to read more about it I am sent back to the very first screen if I hit the return arrow. How can I just go back to the last screen of apps and continue where I left off? It is very frustrating if you are on app #250 out of a possible 500 apps in a category, click # 250 which you decide you dont want and then have to begin again at app #1.

DELETE photos which were copies from my laptop to my iPad. I know how to delete photos that I created on my iPad and move them to the trash can, but how do I delete all those photos which were in files on my laptop and are now on my iPad ??? any body know?

  77. Rosco

    @Bruce – it can’t be done.

    > Photos taken with iPad camera = delete on iPad or after syncing up to your PC or Mac
    > Photos originally synced from PC or Mac – delete on PC or Mac or uncheck in iTunes and sync back

The same goes for iPhone – difference is they have distinctly separate screens for each set of photos on iPhone. One screen for synced photos and another for photos taken with the iPhone. The distinction is not so clear on iPad.

@James -It’s definitely not a waste of money. The browser is amazing, and you can download as many apps as you want. You might want to know what you’re talking about before you run your mouth.

I received an email from someone, and when I replied, I accidentally hit REPLY ALL and my reply went out to all those who had also received that same original message that I did. The problem is that now all of those names are listed in my email addresses. They are not in my contact group, but their names still appear when I go to put in an emaill address. I do not want these names to pop up anywhere at all. How do I get rid of these names?

My tip: splice all the tip articles into a single article that can be read on a single page.

Just found this site–wonderful! Also just purchased an iPad. I don’t like their calendar. Even with my MacBook Pro, I cannot find a very simple calendar. One I can enter things directly to the day, easily delete them, etc. Without 2 or 3 steps. The calendar app also has a big glitch. Can’t get the keyboard to go away. Any ideas on a very basic calendar? I’m not 3G so can’t rely on Google calendar, which would be just the ticket.

I woke up this morning to look at my calendar and all data is gone except for birthdays and one recurring event that I think was synced from my outlook calendar. Everything that i put in manually is gone. I do’nt recall doing anything to cause this, any ideas on how this happened or if i can recover the info?

The question I have searched everywhere for an answer about and can’t figure out (which numerous others have voiced concern over), is how to clear the email cache on my iPad. I mistyped someone and anytime I put their initial in the ‘to’ field, both the wrong one shows up and the correct one. This happens more often than I like to admit, if I am typing from scratch and don’t watch my fingers so I am dying to get the wrong info flushed from my email. Also, I have a few contacts that are .org and mistyped once originally, so now they appear twice- once with a .com address and once with a .org one. It’s maddening. There is no reason that we should not be able to delete that. HELP!! Is this ipad’s/apple’s doing or gmail?

“The help offered is for iPad owners. A distinct tiny minority.
The best tip for the iPad is don’t waste your time and money on one.”

Man, does that comment look silly a year and a half later.

    Hi,

Does anyone know how to stop iTunes from syncing books with the ipad without the sync process erasing all the books on the ipad? I want to delete the files from my computer without loosing the books on my ipad.

If i uncheck the sync books option, iTunes gives a warning that not syncing will delete all the books. And sure enough, frustratingly it does automatically delete all the books on my iPad.

We just got an ipad and in trying to sync our pictures from iphoto, only 9 photos crossed over (out of thousands) A window popped up stating that not all photos could be synced as they could not be displayed on the ipad 2. As far as I know they are all JPEG, so what’s the deal?

  118. Paul

I would really like to stop laughing at all the people who are against the ipad… How can you browse a geek site and ask them to not talk about something tech? Get over yourselves the Ipad is here to stay. If you can’t figure out the ipad maybe you need to stop adding apps and read the instruction manual.

  119. Anna

Thanks For all the info. Could you please tell me if it is possible to open more than 9 windows in safari on the iPad 2? I will really appreciate your help!
