Friday Fun: Favorite Games to Play in Chrome

Online games can provide a perfect break while you are working and being able to choose from a multitude of games makes it even better. If you are a game addict then you will definitely want to have a look at the Game Button extension for Chrome.

Game Button in Action

Once the extension has finished installing you are ready to enjoy all that gaming goodness. To get started just click on the “Toolbar Button” and choose a game category. For our example we chose “Shooting Games”.

Once you select a game category a new window will open. Towards the lower right corner you will be able to access a scrollable drop-down menu and choose the game that you would like to play.

Note: Some of these games come with sounds that can not be turned off so you may want to have the volume lowered all the way or your speakers temporarily turned off if you are at work.

For our first game we chose “Snowball Throw”. Notice that there is a nice variety such as “DinoKids – Archery” to games like “Secret Agent”.

You can see that our game was nicely sized…not too small and not too large.

Go go snowballs! This is definitely a fun one to try…the best approach for this one is to use one hand for clicking the mouse and the other hand for moving it at the same time.

If desired you can post your score and see other high scores afterwards.

For our second game we decided to try “Target Shooter Firing Range”.

This one is definitely a little harder because you have to be extremely precise while moving as quickly as possible.

Not too bad for the score but that is ok. You will certainly be able to have fun finding the games that will become your favorites while enjoying the nice variety.

Conclusion

If you love online games and want a good variety to choose from then the Game Button extension will make a nice addition to your browser.

I’m a long-time reader and How-To Geek fan, but this is getting silly. How many useless extensions is Asian Angel going to write about?

Maybe “useless” is not the proper word. But come on. All of these extensions are focused on one specific narrow task. How many extensions do you need? How slow is your browser running with all these one-shot extensions?

    @Joe

If you installed all of the software, and did all of the tweaks that we wrote about, all at the same time… your PC would never boot again because it would be completely overloaded.

We’re simply highlighting stuff that might be interesting to various people, not recommending that you install every single extension or utility.

You might also note that the title of this article is “Friday Fun”, which means… this is meant to be fun. Don’t take it so seriously!

(And please, stop criticizing Asian Angel so much, she works really hard).

I emailed you directly but also wanted to comment here as well – I shouldn’t have written that comment above and I apologize for being a troll. Apologies to the whole staff, and Asian Angel in particular.

@Asian Angel: Please accept my apologies, I didn’t mean to be so harsh. I am truly sorry.

I actually agree with Joe. Most of the suggested extensions are entirely useless, and will be either a flash game or a mobile website embedded in a browseraction. I like How-To Geek, but users really shouldn’t be installing these. I can’t tell you how many Firefox installations I’ve had to clean up because the user installed thirty extensions he didn’t use. Every extension is another process running, and it makes no sense to run any of these games constantly. Feel free to have a game review article, but encourage bookmarking to these sites instead.

I hate to come off as a jerk, and I’m sorry if I do, but I don’t think you guys should be suggesting these useless, memory-hogging extensions. I’d always thought of this site as focusing more on productivity, and well, actual geekery.

@SquareWheel: Thanks for reading we appreciate that. To reiterate what The Geek said, the title of this is Friday Fun – these are fun articles that can allow you to have fun at work on a Friday while you’re waiting for the weekend.
We don’t recommend you install everything we cover, however some applications might be fun for some and not for others.
If you are interested in trying it out you can, and if you don’t like it you can always uninstall it. The majority of our articles are on productivity, geekery, learning how to use Windows and other technology, solving PC issues, etc.

Note: I tried signing into my month-old account I’d forgotten I had, but I wasn’t able to post. There was a logout button at the top of the page, but the comment form didn’t display my name correctly (or at all). When I attempted to submit my comment it asked me to fill in my credentials.

I understand that people can just uninstall it if they don’t like it, but the chances are that they never will, they’ll just forget about it. Maybe people are different over there, but most people I know tend to have the “if it ain’t broke” ideology when it comes to computers and won’t uninstall anything, ever. Really, I just don’t think these always-running Flash games should be encouraged by How-To staff.

I’ll drop it at this point, I doubt this argument will actually go anywhere, but I thought it best to share my view on the subject.
