x86
x86 is the generic name applied to processors based on Intel’s 8086 CPU. Subsequent processors iterations included the 286, 386, 486, and 586 (Pentium). The “x” in x86 indicates a range of possible numbers and is shorthand for the full names of processors such as 80286, 80386, and so on.
