My guess is a whale made the splash and the splash is catching light from the sun.

Rob Leslie 5pts2 days agoGetting a lot of questions as to how this was done. Totally encourage people around the world to try this out as it is a lot of fun. Was simply throwing rocks into the ocean using a 2 second shutter delay using a cheap little tripod in the dirt. 1...2...throw. Kind of looked like a bit of a lunatic getting this shot.

Dropped my DSLR in the water before doing this which is also on the video below along with some of the failed shots.
