I'm trying to install XP on a laptop I just got, right now it has SUSE 10.2
When it starts up, it says "press any key to boot from CD", then gives me the standard "setup is inspecting the hardware configuration", then the screen goes blank. I've tried several working XP discs with the same result. The laptop has both a CD drive and a DVD drive, both doing the same thing. It's like it doesnt want to display the blue screen text mode portion of the install.
to make things even weirder, I throw a Server 2003 disc in and it works fine.
I've already tried resetting bios to defaults, and sending display output to CRT. Has anyone come across a problem like this, and what difference is there in an XP disc and a Server 2003 disc that would make one work and not the other?
