Every now and then the wmpnetwk.exe kicks on, my laptop freezes, and I have to go into performance manager to shut it off. I share my media with another computer in the house and would like to keep the program on/or available. I don't want it to run ALL the time, just when the other computer needs to access my shared media. It uses over 2 million KB when it's on.

A. Can I set a limit on how much memory it's allowed to use when it's on?

B. Can I set it so that it only kicks on when needed?

Thank you.

I have Windows 7.

P.S. Don't use long words when you answer. I don't know computers. What I just wrote in my question is about 200% more than I knew two weeks ago. :)

No, I had already read that one. Their only suggestion is to disable it. But like I said, I share media with another computer in my house and would prefer to keep it. I wonder why there isn't a way to set a limit on how much working memory the program is allowed to use?
