Wireless sharing between win7 and xp

Hi, I have set up a workgroup between my windows 7 desktop and my windows XP laptop for sharing files. When both machines are hardwired to the router the workgroup works great and I can share files between them without issue. However, as soon as I unplug my laptop from the router and instead use my wireless card to connect I lose the ability to share files. I have tried turning off all firewalls without success. I would appreciate any advice to resolve this. Thanks.

The wireless card isn't compatible with the new windows OS

in conclusion:
-try upgrading your wireless card

What do you mean? The wireless card works fine to allow the laptop to connect to the internet, shouldn't it also allow me to ping my windows 7 machine?

The wireless card.. can't connect to a different OS, or any upgraded version.

-it only connects to it's own OS species (:
-the only purpose that serves now, is to connect to the internet.

Yes, I have used that guide. Is there a way that I can determine if my wireless card is compatible with win7 or not?

Can you ping the XP machine from the Win7 PC when wireless?

If so, try Windows key + R, Type \\'Name or IP address of the Win7', Hit enter. Do you get an error there?
