Winodws 8 Crashed

When i just started my PC, i got an error message which looks like this,

Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Windows is collecting information on the error and we'll restart it for you (100% complete)

For more on this problem search online later for NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

When it reached 100%, it did nothing, i manually restarted it and then my system drive is scanned and repaired and then again restarted. Now it was fine.

Could i know what caused this error and how to prevent it in future?
