My notebook (Dell Inspiron 1420 XP Pro - SP 3) downloaded the following updates automatically and it is not installing despite my prompt, multiple restarts, prompt to install before shut down etc.

What could be the problem ?

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)

Thank you Bill. Uninstalled .Net Framework 1.1. The annoying update yellow monkey is now gone.

Ran the windows update again. Net Framework 1.1 didn't show up as an "high priority" update, but only as an optional update. So I didn't download Net Framework 1.1 (23 MB). Should I download and install this ?

I already have .Net Framework 2.0 SP2, .Net Framework 3.0 SP2 and .Net Framework 3.5 SP1. Do I still need this .Net Framework 1.1 ?

Thanks again for your valuable tip.

amkeew glad that all worked out for you. As for 1.1 framework.

You usually only need older versions of the .NET framework installed if you have an old application which requires an older version of the framework. In most cases you should be okay. If you run across where it ask for it (doubt it) then install it.

Enjoy your computer
