I would like to intall Windows 7 on my XP. I need to copy the files and setting temporarily onto my laptop (running Windows 7). I ran the file transfer untility and the two machines were communicating. But I did not transfer the files because I was afraid all my settings on my laptop will be overwritten by the XP backup. All I want to do is temporarily store my settings and then bring them back when Windows 7 is installed. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Windows XP to 7 File and settings transfer
(2 posts)try this link, it shows how to upgrade from XP to Win7. There will be a couple of new folders Win7 is going to create. After you are satisfied or if you are satisified you can delete these folders. I went from XP to Vista to Win 7 and found junk from long ago in the early days of XP. Decided to do a clean install. Not much time difference including installing all my apps.
