Where did you download the driver from?
Also follow the instructions on the HP Model Locate page to find the model number for your laptop and post it back.
The name "HP Pavilion dv6000" is just the product name and can apply to many different models.

Also, you may have a CD that came with your sound card that has the driver on it, no download needed. But I could be wrong.

For that model the driver download page is at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfr.....38;lang=en
In that case which from the page did you select for download of audio?
A. Conexant High Definition Audio Driver
B. Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp33867)

You're welcome. Glad to help.
Can you post what driver you downloaded and steps you did that worked?
It can be helpful to have what worked in case someone else with the same problem happens to find this thread via something like the search function.
