I have installed Windows XP as a dual boot on my computer that came preinstalled with Vista. I have recently noticed that when I am in XP my computer runs significantly slower. I have noticed this in particular in a few different things.

1st when on the internet if I scroll down it takes a while for the screen to catch up.
2nd when I drag a window around it lags out and/or it leaves behind a trail of the window in question.
3rd an executable game that I am making has such a low frame rate that it is unplayable.

This a brand new "gaming machine" so I have top notch components. I am having none of these problems on the Vista side. I have tested the game that I am making on my computer in Vista and it runs perfectly. I have also tested the game on several other computers with lower specs (running XP) and it runs smoothly on those as well.

Because of the trailing windows and just the nature of the lag, if I had to hazard a guess I would say it has something to do with the graphics output somehow. But beyond that I am clueless.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on and how I might be able to fix it? I don't really know what more info you might need to diagnose but let me know if you need the specs on something.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe your Graphics driver is corrupt. I would recommend you to search for the latest drivers for your chipset and GPU.

Alternatively you may try this:
select run command (win+r) and type "msconfig" and try cleaning undesirable startup programs and services.

Have you looked at processes in Task Manager, or used Sysinternal's ProcessExplorer?

Thanks pjeet89! It was the graphics driver. I got a new one off of the NVidia website and everything is running smoothly now. It makes sense I guess. When I installed XP I was missing several drivers. This one just didn't happen to show up in an error message. Thanks again for all the help!
