I have HP 530 laptop with vista home basic pre-installed. Before now, the installed OS recognizes and installs usb devices automatically. But of late, the OS does not install USB plug and play devices automatically, rather it asks for driver from Device's Cd.

Any idea will be appreciated please

What USB devices is it asking for a driver cd on?

Well, Vista usually has a hard time with USB devices compared to XP, unless its connected to the internet. Then Vista would search online for an installer for that USB.
Worse case scenario. Everything you tried doesn't work... Then you re-install the OS. But only when everything else fails.

See if you have any driver updates available from HP. It may have a bios update available, this fixed my USB issues with my DIY desktop. I'd log in as Admin run device manager By hitting start>device>Device Manager will be on top >Enter>Right click USB Device>Properties>General>Device Status. I'd try reading this page from MS see if it helps. http://windowshelp.microsoft.c.....33.mspx#EQ

I have been able to resolve the Vista USB device detection problem. From Intel website I read "Intel manufactures the host controller but the driver is from Microsoft. While the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility provides functionality, it will not install updated USB drivers; these are available from Microsoft". With this information, I decided to update Vista to SP1 and that resolve the problem.

I appreciate all the contributions. Thanks to you all and God bless you.
