Ok, had to send my desktop back to HP for repairs and did a Windows 7 backup before sending. They reformatted my hard drive and just put back the operating system. Did a complete restore from the portable hard drive and have found that my desktop shortcuts (icons)do not show complete pictures plus the shortcuts don't work. Also, when clicking on the start menu, none of my previously backed up programs are listed. What can I do to get everything back to where it was prior to sending to HP?

Which backup routine - imaging ?? If that is the case, you may be out of luck because Windows 7 imaging is extremely wacky.

What you can do is try to recover your image VHD. Here is how.

Beth:

Sorry, but there's usually no 'adjusting or fixing' a system recovery -- other than maybe giving it another try.

ReadandShare, Sorry, but in her current situation this does not help. You are just confusing her.

Thanks. But you can fix it if the VHD is not corrupted. See my link above.
