Thanks to Whs for suggesting that I open this thread.

After installing windows vista SP1 on 4-08-08 on my home basic laptop, I've gotten error message on several websites when trying to install software: "Windows installer service could not be accessed." At some websites I have been able to install software with no problems. I have checked microsoft support site and have done live searches and have found no solutions.

I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

You may not have seen my addition to your earlier posting which was:
"You may also want to get help from Microsoft. They provide free help for SP1 problems. https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=8&y=7&prid=11274&gprid=500921 "
