can't upgrade programs..do you uninstall it and then download a new version, got a link pls??

Maybe try to install the latest version of Windows Installer:

For Windows Vista, download Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu for 64-bit and Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu for 32-bit.

If you can't even install this then we will look for another solution.

which version of Windows installer do you have?

I do not see any mention of what OS or model of HP computer, so the help will be general. The easiest would be to go back to the date before the suspected problem occurred. Depending on OS, it may be somewhat different but click on the "Start" button (lower left corner) in WinXP, I believe it is a globe with the Windows flag in Win7. Then pick "Help and Support" from the menu, then "System Restore". Depending on OS, that may have to be typed in the search box. Pick a date to restore to before the date this started.

I have tried repairing the registry using Msirepair but I cannot run it from my desktop.

Thx. I think its pretty much solved. I used a bunch of reg fixers I got from warm bodies on the Microsoft Forums page. If you wantem let me know.

PS. Now I cant update Apple Software tho.
