I've used Win Defender for abt a year with no problems but a couple of weeks ago it stopped doing its auto scan. The auto scan box is checked and it is set to scan daily at a time when my computer is on.
I tried uninstalling the program and re-downloading it but no improvement. It seems to work ok when I do a manual scan.

Has anyone any ideas about what I might have missed?
I use Win XP/SP2 and as well as win defender I am running McAfee security suite and Spybot S & D.

How do you know it's not doing the auto scan? Some tasks run in the background and you can't see them.

Hi jd2066. When the program is opened details of the last scan are displayed.

Have now looked at Task mgr/processes but am too much of a novice to know what to do with it (Don't see any problems though)

I quite like security - better than trying to pick up the pieces when it's too late!

From a quick search I found a thread on the Scheduled Scan not working. It's at http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=56442

Thanks very much. An interesting read. I think I'll do the same as the folk in the thread and run it manually in future.
