i was thinking since the .iso wants you to put in the product key in (which for me is still invalid) i figure that the setup.exe would work since it already has the product key in the file. but i need to know how do i make vmware player reconize the .exe file instead of the .iso.

The answer is simple - the .exe won't work. I would try Virtual Box instead of VMWare. Many people had problems with that. Mine works great in vBox. Nearly all these tutorials (except for the first two) were taken in vBox.
