Excuse ne if this thread is already in place. I searched, but could not find. I have a relatively new PC with windows 7 installed. Everything works very well except Windows update has "never worked". The computer belongs to the church seniors area and I use it very infequently. The updates didn't work when I first purchased the computer and still doesn't work.

It is set to update and install automatically. I've tried to get the updates manually with no luck. When the update fails a message says "Windows Update Service is not running". I go to msconfig,check the services, and find windows update is checked and running. What is going on? I haven't had an update since the computer was purchased.

Make sure that the time/date is set correctly.

The link above did the trick. The updates came through, all 472mb. Everything from the last two years. Thanks a lot for the link, and all of the comments. Looks like this will take about 30 minutes or more to download and install.
