Neal, you have win 7 ultimate at present.
An upgrade may not really help you.
What apps do you refer to?
Are you considering an 'upgrade' as opposed to a windows 8 complete install (you will lose all of your apps)
Windows 8 is nothing like 7 so you might want to reconsider.
If you go the path then please image your existing system (win 7)
BTW, is there an urgency or reason to go Win 8?

Before you plunge into Windows 8, I suggest you try it out in virtual. That is risk free and you can experiment as much as you like. All you need is appr. 30GB of free space on your C partition and this tutorial: http://www.eightforums.com/tut.....s-8-a.html
