if you catch the error code on the BSOD after the word STOP - usually in the format of STOP 0X0000007B - you can then google the stop code and get a good idea what the issue was.
If you did not catch the stop code - you can use event viewer to see if windows caught the error
once you know what the problem was - you can start investigating the error
