Hi Folks

My new install of Win 7 is now missing the search box on the start menu.

I've searched as much as I can here and I've done all the usual stuff with 'properties' but I just can't find a way to bring it back.

All the fancy design stuff has been disabled in the interests of speed. Could it have happened then?

Many thank in advance for any help.

Keith

Hi Keith. I don't think it's anything you have done. But, new OS's do have bugs.
I would suggest the old favourite, and open a Command Prompt (as Administrator), and run the command,
sfc /scannow

See if it picks anything up.

Hi LH

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, so I scanned my system and everything is ok.

The problem I'm having is that the search box just above 'Start' isn't there.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Keith

I understand what your problem is, but don't yet have a solution :(

LH

I found it by pure accident, working my way through the whole of the Control Panel.

It's under Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features on and off. It's Windows Search, obvious really!!

I must have disabled it by accident while I was suffering from wine fever!!

Maybe someone else will have the same problem in the future and will find this useful.

Thanks for your time LH.

Keith. You were the the first one to bring up that problem here. And the first one to solve it. A big round of applause aimed your way :)
(And I did just test it)
