Why are some iso files not recognised as iso files

Hi, I have a problem that about 50% of iso files I have aren't recognised as iso.
I click on them and they open like a normal folder and I see all the files in the folder but I can't burn them to disk.
Am I doing something wrong?

What is your OS. What burner are you using ?

.iso files are for system/program installation. You have to first burn them to CD/DVD before you can do anything with them - or you use them for installation in e.g. Virtual Box or VMware Player. Then you can use them directly from your system.
