Do you think having windows8 on a VHD , where the VHD is on a RAM Disc is worth trying ?

Would it work , I thought I might try and use it with Adobe PHotoshop, Dreamweaver and Office 10
on the W8 VHD.

You need an awful lot of RAM. With those programs I would think you need at least 18 to 20GBs. Rather than a VHD, I would install it in VMware Player on your normal system (e.g Windows 7). Then you move or copy the VMware folder to the RAMdisk.

Is it worth it - probably not. I think you would be better off with a SSD - even if attached via USB3. I had tried a small Linux distro on a RAMdisk. It did not really go any faster than on the SSD.

Many Builders use 32GB of Ram as is inexpensive and maxes out the MB with a matched set of modules.

Yeah, 32GB of RAM would be nice. I could run 10 virtual partitions in parallel

32GB of RAM would be awesome but a bit overkill. None the less I would like to have that much!

Rick, that's a good explanation video! If I had the money to upgrade my RAM I might consider that.

All I see is that the overall system performance (last chart) does not differ much from the SSD. And that was my experience with my little Linux distro (DSL) also.

Ya, anything that's runs in memory is going to be faster than running on an SSD. :)

I look at Specs and Performance Bench Marks with my head and not with my heart. :) :)

Well thankyou Rick and Wolfgang for your responses .

I had read this post from WHS's Post

and was curious as to how it would work with a ram disc.

I think my curiosity is now satisfied .

It's fun to experiment but sometimes it does not buy you much despite the good theoretical numbers. As they say "quod erat demonstrandum".
