which is best antivirus?
(58 posts)Thanks for the link whs. I've bee wondering about this also. McAfee have never detected anything in over 2 yrs that i remember.(maybe thats good). and i surf alot on Stumbleupon . I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware because of reading about it on this site and right away it detected 12 threats.I don't think i'll be renewing with McAfee because of issues I've had and the fact i won't be using a credit card for the next 50 yrs.lol. looks like Avira maybe the way to go.i have to say that of all the help sites i been on i find this one the most pleasing to view .really nice layout.easy to read.. i visit here every day to try and learn something.i for one will not be afraid of Vista when this laptop dies and i have upgrade...keep up the good work.
misdaroc, I think you may have a point regarding McAfee, although I read some good things about their latest edition and they have always been top in discovering root kits. I had McAfee on one of my laptops for a while, but it never discovered anything either - maybe that's good news. On this system here I use Norton IS - mainly because I also have Norton Ghost and that started fighting with my Kaspersky. The other day Norton reported a trojan and eliminated it - and it was from what I thought was a benign website that I looked up for some technical information. Recently I hear a lot of good feedback on Nod32, but that may also change in a couple of months. Here in Europe G-Data is highly rated. But I think that is less known in North America. I guess it is like with wine or food. You pick what suits your taste.
Hello, you guys have helped me before with a problem, so here goes with another one!!
Every time I want to shut down my computer, the 'tea timer' program or application does not want to end, and I have to force quit it or say 'end now'. What is this 'tea timer' thing, and do I need it? Where do I find it, or is it running with another program?
I have been using AVG Free Antivirus 8.0.178 alongwith Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.25.378 (freely available at filehippo) in my Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 since May 2008 and to it has worked perfectly for me. No threats of virus for me. Gives me total internet security. Alternatively I used Comodo Internet Security (which is also freely available). I was satisfied with its performance but it was incompatible with vista's aero interface, the context menus looked as if it was Windows 98!!! So I re-installed my "Combo Pack" of AVG Antivirus and Comodo Firewall. I will advice you to go for the same combination. If somebody gets a better solution (preferrably free of cost...... just for namesake), please do post and help Corboban and me ind the best.
with my McAfee i have only ever used windows firewall that was on my laptop and i've never had a problem Am i just lucky? i am good for a few months yet but then i have no choice but to get a free antivirus.would it be in my best interest to install a different firewall other than windows firewall ?
go to gibson research and see how you rate, i checked windows vista firewall with a router and i came up stealth. but depending on where you go and what you download you might need a junk program like zonealarm or comodo to completely slow your computer to a crawl. not to mention the thousands of prompts you'll get. then when you finally get sick of it, usually after the first 30 seconds, it will fight you until the end with prompts.
I wouldn't bother with a software firewall besides the one in Windows. Definitely use a router, even if you only have one computer behind it. Avira always scores well but it annoys you with a pop-up to buy a full version every time you boot up. Avast works well as well if you buy something, I'd get NOD32 or Kaspersky. I hear Sunbelt's new Viper is good as well.
For antispyware I'd add Malwarebytes as well as the Superantispyware you already have, their a pretty good combo.
