Wine is software that implements a compatibly layer for Linux to run Windows programs.
It can run some Windows programs including games but they don't always work as well as they run on Windows.
You can read more about Wine at http://www.winehq.org/.
You can read more about what works with Counterstrike 1.6 when running under Wine at http://appdb.winehq.org/object.....8;iId=3507

There's also a commercial version of Wine called CrossOver that is easier to use and setup. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/

I've personally used Wine to run CS1.6 and it works perfectly, even with Steam. Or at least, it did when I tried it. Good luck.

Google has also sponsored Wine updates over the last few years to fix compatibility issues with Picasa, and recently Photoshop.
