What have I done now? Windows 7 on XP?

Hello my GoodGreatGeeks :)

I am not sure but I think I did something wrong ..ok here it goes

I got a Upgrade for Windows
I install it on a XP computer
The keys did not work
I call the tech at Microsoft
He said: do it again and do it with "upgrade" then your keys will be working (instead of upgrade)
So ...I did ..and now the Windows 7 is there and working but..
it took a big chunk of space...believe me but...
Its working...will it go on like this ...or ???

Hello there,

I think the "big chunk of space" might be all the old Windows files from the previous Windows install, which should be located in... C:\Windows ... and called "Windows.old". If this is the case, I created a How-to not long ago on how to delete this directory correctly link below...

Go through the "Windows.old" folder carefully and make sure you back up anything you need before deleteing it.

As I said, this could explain the used up disk space, but it might not.

There are a couple of folders that Win7 created when you upgraded that you don't need anymore. You can put them on DVD or deltet them if you want. The other thing is going from Xp to 7 you probably have a lot of junk that is still on your hdd from xp. look at this link it might help explain some issues going from xp to 7
