I would like to know if you have any recommendations as far as FREE and PAID software for this and why.

Win 7's built in defrag does a perfectly good job by itself.

I agree with Xhi but I think the default time of 2am on Sunday might not be appropriate for most people so I think that wants changing in Start > Search > Type and click on: disk defragmenter > Configure Schedule.

In addition, with modern disk technology and speeds defragmentation is way over rated as a solution to problems effecting the speed of a computer.
