I installed W7 Pro on my friend's PC with the disk from ASKVG. We are upgrading it from XP and the compatibility tool says it's ok but Aero won't work which is not a problem to us. Windows is currently running ok and installing updates but occasionally pops up the "Not Genuine" box. The plan is to rearm the grace period until the end and then he will then buy it but Command does not recognise the rearm -slmgr command and the bottom of the Computer Properties page is empty where the activation details should be like I've reproduced here from mine with an image program:

Could this be a BIOS problem or something else? We are just testing this out to make sure there will be no problems before he buys it.

Is there something wrong though with it not showing how many days are left or any details about activation in Computer Properties? Will try those commands near the time. thanks.

A lot tricks I have to remember. (LOL) :) :)

You probably installed Update (KB971033) which is a NO-NO also.

Set this back to 0 also.

Is it KB971033 that's hiding the activation details?

Don't MS want us to rearm W7 anymore?

There are a lot of "tricks" on the forum which you know we are prohibited from giving detailed advice on. :) :)

Rick

i'm not looking for tricks. I want to understand if there is going to be a problem when he actually buys W7. The system is quite old so I want to eliminate that possibility that it is that that's causing the problem. We want to use the grace period to check it's ok...we don't need or want indefinite rearming...just the usual three times.

I understand.

If you have all the Machine Device Drivers for Windows 7 and the system is running, then you will know in matter of days if the older hardware is OK.

If friends other software is a problem, then will know also in a matter of days and will have to run VMs.

No need for long 30 - 120 day non-activation trial period.

Is it that update that's knocking out showing the details in Computer Properties in my image above?

Am not sure why you don't get this screen.
May be is because the net downloads are trials ??
Use this Page for most up-to-date downloads.

DO THIS MANUALLY and post back what you get.

In Administrator Command Prompt, type in:

For Windows Installation Date
systeminfo|find /i "install date" and Press Enter Key

How Many Days Left Before Needing for Activation
slmgr.vbs -xpr and Press Enter Key

Thanks Rick

I'll do this and report back tomorrow night after I've been to my friend's. :)

This is the download site which is used often here that I used but will use that one if the commands don't work and my friend is up for it:

Tony,

Yes the Link I gave you above in my post is more up-to-date than the askvg Link that you downloaded from. :)
