Hi

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....-computer/

I successfully installed xp pro to partition and followed all instructions. But when i load up vista boot pro and go to system bootloader, the install bootloader tag at bottom of page does not appear when i have selected the options stated. Any ideas why not?

Thanks

Did you try using the force bootloader install option?

You could also try EasyBCD instead...

What happens if you choose the Run Diagnostics option? Also, what partitions did you install vista/xp on?

Don't despair, you can always get the Vista bootloader back by booting off the Vista cd and choosing repair. (although it'll kill the XP bootloader) You could then try and add XP as an option from Vista.

This particular error has never happened to me before.

Im not sure if this is a problem, my laptop is a HP and has a section already partitioned as a recovery drive.

This is vistabootpro/tools/disk manager via win xp

Drive C: windows vista
Drive D: windows Xp
Drive E: HP Recovery ( i believe it has a copy of windows vista on there)

This is what it looks like under BCD registry settings overview

[/URL

After running diagnostics (manage BCD OS entries)

Its like its not even detecting windows XP at all, even though im physically using it now. When I first created a partition, i named it as B which was where XP was installed, now through disc manager i see it at B drive.

If this cant be solved, how can I reverse what i have done, i really dont want to do a complete format.

At that point, you'd be back to normal. You can use the "Add new OS entry" to add a 3rd entry for Windows XP on the b: drive if you choose, or you could save those settings and get back to Vista, and then try installing vistabootpro under vista and adding the XP option then.

You shouldn't have to do a format... You can almost always just do a repair under Vista's boot cd, or in this case the recovery partition.

Sorry The_Geek i did some editing to my post whilst it appears you were replying, perhaps my edit my clarify things further.

I am not the most technically minded person when it comes to this, so how exactly would i go about deleting what i done without having to do a complete format if i cant resolve the dual boot.

Thank you

The vistabootpro detected your Windows Vista installation, so if you choose the option to reinstall the vista boot loader and saved the OS entries after doing the diagnostics, then you should be back to normal.

Does your computer come with a bootable recovery dvd?

I think what he's saying is that after you run the diagnostics in Vistabootpro, it detects your original configuration properly, which means theoretically you could save that and be back to normal (although XP will still be installed, just not accessible)

After you run the diagnostics, does it give you the option to install the vista boot loader?
