Windows update has worked for my new Vista PC that was purchase a few months ago. One of the windows updates keeeps failing to install (I think it downloads). I've searched for help, but everything I come accross seems to point towards a windows update problem. The thing is that it isn't a problem accross the board as I've recieved and successfully installed updates published before and after "KB943899." All the services are obviously started and I assume working. I also manually downloaded the update from Microsoft and tried to install it. Also, the error code after the failed install is 800B0100 ( a pretty ambiguous error it seems).

Any ideas would be much appreciated GEEKS.

Thanks

This one is not a big deal. With SP1 you will get it again. You can read about it here:

Thanks much. I won't really worry too much about it for now. However, I am a GEEK and am still curious as to what is going on. It seems that this update screwed a lot of peoples machines up. I'd like to think it isn't installing because it is known to screw peoples PCs up, but I really doubt that one. Response is much appreciated from "whs."

If anyone wants to give me any technical information about why this isn't working would be cool. Its just wierd that only one update isn't working. I'm a very curious person. What's going on?

thanks.

I actually was able to install it. But I had big trouble with another one: KB937287. This bugger and KB938371 came together and without an uninstaller. They have conflicts among each other and created all kinds of problems on my system. I was constantly rebooting in safe mode. And by the time I knew what was going on, I had lost the last shadow from before they were installed (my own fault because I had reduced the shadowstorage). So system restore was not in the cards either. Now I'm waiting for MS to fix the mess as they promised, because in the meantime they have withdrawn those from the market. In preparation for SP1 they seem to do all kinds of weird things.

Disable your firewall, Vistas built-in or whatever you use, and run the update again. That's what fixed it for me (all updates installed now).
