I am trying to create a restore point using Vista. This has worked for me before. But now I can't restore to an earlier date or create any restore points. The cause is my System Restore function doesnt ever find any of the drives. It just keeps searching and never displays anything to check. What to do....What to do???

Vista System Restore
(9 posts)It's just a suggestion and someone is going to have to help me out, but is the System Restore service enables in your Services window. I'm not sure which service it is directly, but I'm sure someone knows =s?
Also could it possibly be to do with a virus? Any other abnormal things going on with your computer recently? I once had a virus that just disabled me from using System restore all together...but once again, I'm no expert.
Malware is definitely a possibility. Many of those disable the system restore to make it more difficult to get rid of them. A reinstall is usually the only way out unless you can find all the places that were damaged by the malware - very, very difficult. There are published procedures to deal with certain known viruses, but then, of course, you have to know what virus did the damage.
To get system restore working, type RES into the Start search field and go to system restore. From there you only have to follow the wizard.
For setting system restore up, type BACK into the Start search and go to the Backup and Restore center. There, in the left pane, you can get to the settings part (second entry).
