SP1 was released in early February 2008. If Windows 7 (SP3, ;) ) is set for late 2009, early 2010, maybe it's logical to look for SP2 near the beginning of 2009.

Nice to know that there will be an SP2 for Vista - but the information is still a little skimpy. It will probably contain things like IE8 and hopefully some more reliable component drivers (e.g. Nvidea).

Of course it will be out eventually, Microsoft always has project teams working different areas. There are plenty of patches they can roll into an SP2 update and I'm sure there are tweaks and improvements to the UI of Vista. I've heard that UAC is getting an overhaul for Windows 7, I'd hope to see Microsoft roll that into a Service Pack for Vista too.

A very close aquantance of mine in MS told me that Microsoft is planning not to launch Vista SP2 and is concentrating only on the new version of Windows........what's it called.......mmmm......... Windows 7.0 if I am not mistaken.

I also read the site http://support.microsoft.com/d.....spid=11707 given by James but the language used is typically "Microsoftian" way of saying "maybe you wont see Vista SP2"

Windows 7 is the codename for the new version, not sure if it will keep that or not. Microsoft has various project teams. The fact that there's a KB article shows that they are working on it. Windows Vista and Server 2008 use the same kernel so they certainly aren't abandoning their latest and greatest server operating system.

Just by seeing a KB article on it doesnt fully imply that MS wil work on it. Plus I agree that Windows Vista is perhaps the most audacious OS of MS, still branding it as the greatest ever OS is not apt, considering the fact that its the most buggy OS ever too.

Last time I checked Windows XP has had the most patches out of any Windows OS. So with that fact it is the MOST buggy OS. ^_^

Yes XP patches were many, so it implies that MS should have corrected all or most of the errors it made during XP release, but it didnt. It repeated the same mistake all over again in WIn Vista. So if we consider a broader sense on how the software sector progressed in the times of the release of XP and Vista, we can safely think that Vista is more buggy comparing to its release time than XP.

But coming to the point, if in case Win Vista SP2 will come, it shall be a welcome SP, coz I am using Win Vista since a year which includes usage of WV SP1 since 3 months and I find many more bugs remaining untouched. I think it will take MS a SP3 for Win vista to fix it to an optimum level, just as it was for XP. Plus I believe Vista's ruthlessness towards hardware demands are outrageous, I mean here in India there is not so much scope of seeing hi-fi systems as in the west and people here are hard hit, considering the fact that a majority of computer users belong to middle-class families earning bout $3000 a yr.
