@jonhill987, this recycle bin problem you fix as follows: Right click on the desktop > personalize > Theme > set theme to windows classic > Apply, etc. > reset to what it was before (probably "modified") > Apply, etc. and your bin should work again. You will use your desktop background in the process, but that should be easy to reset.

I know I can reset it, but I really shouldn't have to do that every time I empty the recycle bin should I.

The fix whs listed should only need to be done once.
If you have to do it every time you empty the recycle bin then something weird is going on.

Did you reset the way I said or did you use "Change desktop Icons"? The latter does not work in this case.

I actually used "Change desktop Icons", as I figured that would achieve the same thing. I shall give it a go the other way next time it happens though.

EDIT: Cheers, that seems to have sorted it.

Alright, if anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated.

I have tried installing it twice, and it has still done the same thing.

First off, I run Home Premium, and have all the requirements etc for vista, and have checked for any hardware problems for SP1.

I found no problems with installing it, software or hardware wise, and this is what happens when I install it.

I press install and it shuts down my pc and goes to installing vista sp 1 of 3 and then after it gets to 3 of 3 and gets to 100%, it takes about half an hour for it to do anything, and when it does do anything, it says vista sp did not install reverting changes...

I'm a little confused, any help would be nice :)

Spend a few minutes reading this thread, http://forums.logitech.com/log.....e.id=41773

It seems if you can disable the Logitech drivers, SP1 may install. You can re-enable after, or look for a new driver set.

Alright, so basically this is what happened.

First I struggled with my brother to get his mouse, because I had to uninstall my logitech one, after it failed, I used my wii remote connected with bluetooth to my pc to serve as a mouse substitute, taht way I had uninstalled my logitech hardware etc and pressed install on sp1, everything went fine until it went to installing 3 of 3 100% and then it said that it did not install and reverting back changes etc.

I am usually a wiz at computers, but I don't have a clue what's going on here.

Argh. Have you tried the standalone?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791

Are there errors you can see in 'Problem Reports and Solutions' or 'Event Viewer'?

If you are at your wits end, you can always contact MS, free SP1 support @ http://support.microsoft.com/o.....rid=500921

Alright, after four attempts of installation and failure, I'll try the standalone, I don't see any problems at all and don't see a single reason why the computer shouldn't install sp1.

I'll try the free support if the standalone doesn't work.

Thanks for all the help too, much appreciated.

@GEEKwanabe: Is the error just that article or is there more to the error message?

jd2066, thanks for the reply,
the actual message said an internal error occurred...
error Ox8OO703F0 see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366

I went through all the 5 solutions the only thing that showed up was a CBS.log corrupt files under the sfc/scannow which was not able to be repaired according to the scan results.(i guess I can't paste the print screen box to show you)in this message?

If you have a Screen Shot you can upload it at http://imageshack.us/ and paste the forum code it gives in a reply.
You can skip the email field if you don't want the manage an image collection on the site.
Also uncheck the Yahoo Hotjobs box as would show a pop up ad otherwise.

Yes, I can see it.
It appears to not say much except there is a log file with more details.
Can you you open the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file in notepad, copy the contents and paste them in a reply?
