I tried to download SP1, once downloaded it would not open. I tried several different types of installations with the same results. I called the MS help line which created major problems. I have been on the phone with MS almost every day for 8 days and for 4-6 hours each day. They have entirely messed up my computer and I cannot get the internet. I have tried system restore and safe mode (can't get into safe mode since their "help").

Any suggestions will be most helpful. I have not been able to use my computer for 8 days.

if you can try to maybe give a little more info on what you can remember what MS told you to do that would help us out a lot and would be easier to help you.

MS remoted into my computer. He deleted many files and other items, I'm really sure the full extent of his "help". I've done a system restore on IE7, downloaded IE8, turned off all add-ons and everything else I can think of. I'm by no means an expert, but I do know a few things.

So it was the Microsoft Tech person that messed up the computer not the download of Service Pack 1?
Also what exactly isn't working? Do you get any error messages?

Yeah MSTech has really messed me up. Idon't have the exact error message #, but after downloading and then trying to install I get the error 80000...02. The oddest thing is is that I can connect to my company website and to my schedule website, but I can't go to any other sites once I am there.

Messenger opens and shows online as does Limewire (which can still download). Every time I get a phone call from MS they tell me to get on line (duh!) and then say the will call back in 15 mins and never call the rest of the day. It's been over two weeks and I'm at a loss as to what to do. Who should I contact next?

With a mess like that I would reinstall Vista. Probably the most straightforward approach to get working again. And then I would wait for SP1 to show up in the automatic updates (make the setting in Windows Update accordingly) - waiting may take a few days or a few weeks, but so what. I would also run the "Readiness Tool" to see whether your system is ready for SP1:
