Hello All,

I know it has been a while since I have posted here but work has been really crazy! I am having an issue where Vista on my domain can not see all of my network devices. If I go to network only *some* vista PCs show up only one of my two servers and most definitly no XP PCs show up. I do not know the cause of this. Please help.

Dan

i have a vista and XP machine, and the Vista will not see the XP machine on my network either.

what i do is simply (in either of the machines) is go to the start>run menu, and simply type \\%computername%
where %computername% is the name of the computer i want to access.

Wallaceb,

Thank you for your prompt response, unfortunately I don't have a problem with doing that but it become a little difficult for my users to do that. especially the less technically inclined ones.

Smashpmk712,

The key words in your post are "on my domain".

Your Domain PCs are not setup properly for a Domain networking environment.

Keep watching this post and I will try and add some MS info.

Thanks raphoenix,

I am almost positive that my domain is set up properly. It was a mess when I got on the job but since then I have gotten all the DCs to talk properly and all that jazz. I think it may bee linked to SP1 for vista but not positive. Thanks!

Smashpmk712,

Know you are doing a good job !!

You can see from the posts on this forum and others that there is much controversy over Vista.

No comment on my part.

Kindest Regards,
Rick P.

Do all the Vista PCs have "Network discovery" and "File sharing" turned on in the "Network and Sharing Center?
Are all the PCs in the same subnet?
Also why do you need to have Network Browsing?

JD2066,

All Vista PCs have both network discovery and file sharing on but the problem is that the vista SP1 PCs can not see the XP PCs. I don't "need" to have network discovery turned on but it would be nice. If I have to tell a user how to do something over the phone than I don'tr need the to type in a server name I can have them browse to it, ect. also all the PCs are in the same subnet. Thanks.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to say then. Do all the machines appear when you look on a Windows XP machine?
