I've been having a problem with both of my Windows Vista computers (one laptop, one desktop).

Randomly, files will begin not showing up on the desktop. I'll download a file from the internet through Firefox (and save to the desktop). The file will not appear on the desktop until I right-click and select "refresh".

Vista knows the icon/file is there, though, because it will leave the space "blank" and place other icons below it. I don't know what's causing this.

I've been having the same problem sometimes too... was on my list of things to fix, so I guess I can cross that one off.

I haven't installed it yet... don't want to have to reboot :(

I'd come across this hotfix, but since my specific problem wasn't listed in the symptoms, I wasn't sure it would apply. However, I've downloaded and installed it (no reboot required here!) and I'll let you know if it prevents icons from not appearing.
