when i bought my laptop in 2006 it made me make a data recovery disk before i filled my computer with all sorts of crap. Now my computer wont update any software and runs slow and has all sorts of errors coming up all the time. I thought maybe i could insert the data recovery disk and restore my computer to the way it was when i bought it but nothing happens when i insert the disk and try to restore. Can anyone help me and explain how i can get my computer running like when i bought it?

What is the make of your PC? And is it a Vista OS - 2006? - The first Vista PC was (officially) sold Feb.1, 2007. And do you still have the recovery partition?

If you still have the recovery partition (since you did not answer that question), it is the easiest to reinstall from there. First make sure you save all your data because that is going to be all erased. Then do this:

1. Make sure the computer is turned off.
2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard while powering on the computer. When the computer powers on, the Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen displays.
3. Select one of the options, and then click Next. The options are: Recovery of Factory Default Software (recommended) or Erase the hard disk

Take the first option since the disk is anyhow being reformatted during installation.

When you go to "Computer" (set the window to Tiles > in Views), you should see C: and D: (plus your DVD drive etc.) The recovery partition is D:. It is usually around 10GBs or a little smaller. It is from there that you burnt your 2 Recovery DVDs.
BTW: should the reinstallation as explained above not work, put the first of your recovery DVDs back into the DVD reader, open the Computer window and double click on the DVD drive. See whether that works better. But for both cases, make sure your data has been first saved (to USB stick, external disk, DVD or whatever).
