My computer won't shutdown but reboots after several minutes. If I click the red shutdown button after it reboots, then it shuts down. I have not installed any new programs, and never had any previous problems since I bought the computer 2 years ago. Grateful for any help. Thank you. Misha

(8 posts)Hello Misha,
Open Power Options from Control Panel>
choose Change Plan Settings>
choose Change Advanced Power Settings>
under Power Button Action, tell us what option is checked for Start Menu Power Button.
On Sleep_ _ _ _? On battery_ _ _ _ ?
The same details under Power Button and Lid too please.

What Power state are you using, Balanced, Power Saver, High Performance?

For some a BIOS update solved the issue, for others it was a power setting and for some it was devices that woke the PC up as it wasn't fully shutdown.
I have no idea if Ranjith's suggestion will work but if so, it looks to be the easiest.
It could be restarting due to a BSoD during the shut-down process.
1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.Click the Advanced tab.
3.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4.Clear the Automatically restart check box
Restart the computer to make the changes, then try shutting it down.
