Ok I downloaded this program for Vista that is suppost to allow me to make or use an animated wallpaper for my desktop. Whenever I go to pick what wallpaper I want it prompts me that the Desktop Windows Manager is not running and that it has to be turned on for the program to work but I cant figure out how to turn it on. Any suggestions? The website I went to for the program is [broken url?]

I prefer to have my wallpaper randomly cycle through my picture files. It is set for 10 minutes view each change. If you can't get your animator working, you might consider a wallpaper changer. I have had good luck on both XP and Vista with a free one called WallpaperChanger.

Desktop Windows Manager runs as a service. I don't know why it wouldn't be on. You can check it from Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Scroll down to Desktop Wind. . If the service is stopped, select it and start it. I think this is what you're talking about.

I went to the service menu and everything and it says it's running but the program still says it isn't and won't let me use the background. The prompt says word for word: The Desktop Window Manager is not running. DeskScape requires the Desktop Window Manager (uxsms) service to be running to function. Please visit [EDIT BY MOD- BROKEN LINK] for more information.
I even went there and they don't even have a troubleshoot page.

If you are trying to run these on anything lower than Vista Ultimate, the system will probably give you a nastigram.

A couple of things.............what version of Vista are you running?

Do you have Aero enabled?
Right click on the desktop, click on "personalize" then go to "Window color and appearance".
Click on "Open classic appearance properties for more color options" at bottom
Make sure "Windows Aero" is highlighted then click on apply.
Go to the desktop background and see if Deskscapes works.

Is your video card set to 32 bit (not 16 bit) and does it have enough ooomph to run Deskscapes?

Here's a link to the Deskscapes Troubleshooting Guide at Stardock, maybe there are some other suggestions that might help.

Oh I had changed it to classic. Just changed it back to Aero and it works now. Thanks so much!! I can't believe it was something so simple. Lmao.
