Is it possible to use files in Vista's partition while booted in XP and vice versa or should I make a separate shared partition? Also, would triple booting with Ubuntu be a bad idea?

taybay,

The guy (Guru) at Neosmart has dual & trip booting covered with his EasyBCD program. Visit and ask away @ http://neosmart.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7
He help me immensely with my dual boot meltdown.

He is based in the Middle East so time differential may be an issue.

Personally I don't usually dual boot... I just have two machines running next to each other. Makes things much simpler.

Well I have a laptop that I just got that came with Vista so I can't really afford another machine right now. But I keep hearing security talk about Vista on Slashdot and it's giving me the willies so I'm looking to install XP to use for certain things. But thanks a bunch scott, I'll definitely look into that.

I think the security talk is just a bunch of scare tactics...

I have a dual boot system though, and the trick is to have separate partitions entirely for each OS, and then have a shared one for documents.

To answer your question, yes XP can access files on a Vista partition and vice versa. Just make sure you do not install the two operating systems in the same partition, and don't forget you can't have more than 4 primary partitions

I used EasyBCD boot to fix a dilema, I had a drive with Vista on it, but I needed a gaming with XP. SO the Geek, a (wise man, and quick to deliver help him) and it works okay but know on my main drive with Vista Home Premium 64 It has lost the winloader.exe My computer will only boot givening me the dual boot option ONLY if my Vista DVD is in my DVD drive. I read that winloader EXE is a hacker paradise to gain control of my system. HELP I dont want to do a whole reinstall the have to reinstall every little program I have on there. I think I just need a "CLEAN" Copy of WINLOADER AND PUT IT IN MY SYSTEM 32 folder (sorry for the caps) any ideas?

Since you have the vista cd, your best option is to boot off the cd, and then choose the option to repair your vista installation. You can also use the system restore feature in there if necessary. I am willing to bet that there are other problems besides that one missing file, so your best option is to use the repair.

Otherwise, I'll have to find my 64bit cd so you might have to wait until tomorrow for the file.

One of the missing features in bbPress is the ability to move a post into it's own topic... I need to figure out how to do that, since it's becoming clear that I need it.

Hi guys, Im new to this site so please bear with me. But thx for all yalls information, b/c of it I was able to successfully install Windows XP Pro on top of Vista on a Toshiba Satellite P305D-S8900. But I ran into a snag...I cant get the wireless to come up in XP and also when I look in the Device Manager there's a Question Mark next to Other Devices and Question Marks next to the following as well: Audio Devise on High Def Audio Bus, Ethernet Controller, Mass Storage Controller, Modem Device, Network Controller, SM Bus Controller, and finally Video Controller. ANY input/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
