When i try to watch any movie, it plays it too bright. When I change the brightness, it does nothing. It is doing this in all of the programs so I think that it is something else. Not just windows media player or windows media center. I don't want to reformat my hard drive because I have digital copies of movies that I don't want to delete because we don't have a blu-ray player. Please help. I am not usually not on the computer so I will be slow to respond, but this is a problem that I need to fix. Please post any answer that you can provide.

This could be due to a setting in your graphics driver, for example. Most Nvidia and ATI drivers add a bunch of extra tabs to the Display Properties window. Often this includes the ability to set gamma, brightness, contrast and other options that are specific to graphics being handled by the adapter. Check there, first, and if there is a "Reset to defaults" button or setting you might try it.

The feature I'm thinking of is DirectDraw. I just ran dxdiag to get the name.
